Dear All,

After social unrest observed in Chimoio (Manica province) on Saturday which cause 5 dead people and 27 wounded (numbers and reason for the riots to be confirmed), again, there are ongoing disturbances in some spots in Maputo, namely on the way to Matola, Alto Maé and Praca dos Combatentes.

UN staff has been advised through their Heads of Offices to remain at home until further notice.

All we know at the moment is that there are problems in the city, some vehicles are being stoned and "chapas" are being stopped at some spots but we cannot predict how the situation will develop. It can spreads it was in 05Feb or calm down if the National Police is able to control the situation since they are now better prepared for it.

I will keep you informed on any development of the situation and will give advice you on what to do.

If you are on the street DO NOT try to pass through any demonstration, protest or riot, and inform immediately the Security Unit if you see something abnormal.
